Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 cause of death in the United States.
You know from your reading this week that a healthy diet and regular exercise are two ways to keep your heart and blood vessels working well, but you've probably heard a number of other ways to prevent heart disease.
This week, I want you to think of one thing you've heard about the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular disease that's not discussed in the reading. If you can't think of anything yourself, try asking your friends and family what they think is good for your heart, and pick something they say. Here are some ideas of what you might choose to research: Is there a specific food that might prevent or treat heart disease? A specific vitamin or herbal supplement? A specific activity? A specific food or chemical or activity that should be avoided?
Then, I want you to do a little research on what the experts have to say about this prevention or treatment. Here are a few suggestions of where to look:

Centers for Disease Control - Heart Disease (Links to an external site.)

If you go to any other website to find your answers, make sure you think back to your Website Evaluation Assignment in week 1 and ask yourself if it's a reliable source. In particular, review the 10 Red Flags of Junk Science .
When you've figured out the truth of your chosen preventive, come back here and post, answering the questions below:
Read the directions above and answer the questions below for your week five discussion:
1. What prevention or treatment are you researching?
2. What do the experts say? Is this a good strategy? Explain.
3. Where did you get your information? Please provide the direct link.
Find and show the reaction components in a figure
: The figure shows a simple cantilever truss, loaded by a concentrated force P at the joint E.
|
Total yield on investments
: If S is the amount of money that she invests in Safe Sox and $10,000-S is the amount that she invests in Wobbly Umbrellas, what should S be to maximize her expected utility? (Pick the closest answer.)

How sensory design could affect tothe public space
: How sensory design could affect tothe Public Space? - and how this will affect to certain sociological patterns? - How sensory design could affect toour daily lives?
|
Find and show the reaction components on a drawing
: The figure shows an N-truss girder, loaded by concentrated vertical forces of magnitude 3P at the joints F and J, and of magnitude 6P at the joints G, H and I. All bars are elastic with stiffness EA.

What prevention or treatment are you researching

Preliminary assessment of cost and price conditions
: On a preliminary assessment of the cost and price conditions, the company finds that: The production cost of the new brand is expected to be much higher than that of TOUGH. Therefore the cost function of TOUGH is not relevant for SNOB.

Determine the reaction and bar forces
: The figure shows a V-truss girder with a vertical load in B. All bars are elastic with stiffness EA.
|
Compute the reduction in excess burden
: The combined federal and provincial taxes on a carton of 200cigarettes were reduced from $24 to $10 in February 1994. (a) Describe how you would compute the reduction in excess burden from the change.
|
Find the distribution of internal forces n q and m
: The figure shows a two span simply supported beam, where the length of the inner beam AB is 4a, while the length of the cantilever beam BC is 2a. Vertical load 2P and P are acting on the middle of the beams AB and BC, respectively.
