Problem

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee recently reported that despite implementation of a detailed central line care protocol, the rate of central line infections has not decreased over the last 6 months. The committee recommends that a designated interdisciplinary team jointly review the existing protocol in-depth. The team will explore and monitor this situation and submit its recommendations to the CQI Committee within 30 days. How will the team obtain the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee's evaluation outcomes for this program? How did the Committee collect and use baseline data? What type of outcome is measurement of central line infection (care-related, patient-related, and performance-related)? What are some associated indicators for their organization's program to reduce central line infections (see Table 18-1)? Who is population of interest?
