During the Renaissance, Plato was re-introduced to European scholars with an electrifying effect. All of his dialogues except the Timaeus had disappeared in the chaos after the fall of the western Roman empire. All of Aristotle's work had survived, so naturally he came to dominate Medieval thought, especially with regards to his works on logic. But when a copy of Plato's dialogues was printed (in Latin, the universal language of the time) on the new-fangled printing press in 1484, fewer than 30 years after Gutenberg printed the Bible on movable type, the study of Plato's thought swiftly spread through European universities. But even though Plato was a pre-Christian writer, Renaissance thinkers insisted on seeing his ideas as prefigurements of Christian theology.

What about Plato's ideas was so "simpatico" with Christian thought? Does adding Plato to Christianity improve one or the other, or do both suffer from the combination, or does some other result hold?
