In a famous experiment, Matthew Meselson and Franklin Stahl grew E. coli cells in a medium containing only the "heavy" isotope of nitrogen, 15N. These cells were then transferred to a medium with the "light" isotope of nitrogen, 14N. The results of the experiment supported the hypothesis of semiconservative replication, which was proposed by Watson and Crick.
a) Heavy DNA (15N DNA), hybrid DNA, and light DNA (14N DNA) can be separated by centrifugation. If cells containing 15N DNA are transferred to a medium with only 14N NH4CI as a nitrogen source, what percent of daughter molecules are composed of hybrid DNA after 3 generations?
b) Predict what percent of daughter molecules would be composed of hybrid DNA if DNA exhibited conservative replication -that is, if a daughter DNA molecule were composed of newly synthesized DNA only.
Compare the relative rate of the foward (EtOH as a substrate) and back reaction (with acetylaldehyde). Use the Michaelis-Menten equation to solve for v when ethanol is 99mM and acetylaldehyde is the substrate and its concentration is 1mM
calculate the equilibrium constant K at 25 degrees for the reaction Fe+Cd2+9aq) ---> Fe2+(aq) +Cd(s) where E cell = 0
In the reaction of o-vanillin and p-toluidine, why doesn't o-vanillin not protonate the p-toluidine and prevent the Nitrogen from behaving as a nucleophile? Include a chemical reaction explaining.
Question- How many moles of NaOH must be added to 0.400 L of 0.177 mol/L HCOOH(aq) to obtain a solution with pH=3.5? Assume the temperature is 25oC. (For HCOOH, pKa=3.74 at 25oC).

The CaC2O4.H2O precipitate is not completly air-dried when its mass is deteremined. Will the reported mass of the limiting reactant in the original salt mixture be reported too high or too low? Explain.
Why is it not possible to use acetic acid rather than formic acid in the Eischwieler-Clarke reaction
This experiment is separated into parts one and two. Explain what are the [Fe3+] and [SCN-] before mixing in each part. Briefly define why the concentrations of the Fe3+ and SCN- are different in the two parts of the experiment.
Problem- Lead metal can be extracted from a mineral called galena, which contains 86.6% lead by mass. A particular ore contains 68.5% galena by mass.
Question- What is the product from the reaction of one mole of acetylene and one mole of hydrogen gas using platinum catalyst
2.50 mol NOCl was placed in a 2.50 L reaction vessel at 400ºC. After equilibrium was established, it was found that 28% of the NOCl had dissociated according to the equation 2NOCl(g) 2NO(g) + Cl2(g).
What is the concentration of the vinegar in weight percent? (Assume a density of 1.030 g/mL.) If the pH of the vinegar was 3.44, what value is obtained for the Ka of acetic acid?
