Question: Basic Concepts Worksheet 6.1

Description: NADPH is an extremely powerful and useful reducing source for all cells. In plants, photosynthesis is used to generate NADPH. As nonphotosynthetic organism, we need a different way of generating this reducing agent. By using glucose 6-phosphate and the pentose phosphate pathway, we are able to generate NADPH as well as other useful building blocks for our bodies.

Instructions: Using good old fashioned pen and paper (pencil is ok too), draw in the structure of each metabolic intermediate in the pentose phosphate pathway in the figure below (use figure 26.1 for an example). Make sure it is completely readable and submit (note: the app, "Turbo Scan", works very well, small cost; "iScanner" is also available for free).
