Question: In what particular way are people wrong about the world? Why is it important?
According to the author , people are wrong about the world in multiple ways, and this includes both climate change knowledge and general knowledge about the world. The author asked nearly 12,000 people in 14 countries to answer a set of questions, and on average, they scored just two correct answers out of the first 12.
Moreover, most people got most of the answers wrong, even those individuals/peoples who were highly educated and interested in the world. The author suggests that people's lack of correct knowledge is not a result of a lack of intelligence, but states that it is rather a form of massive ignorance. It is important not to be ignorant and have an accurate knowledge about the world because it informs our decisions and actions. Incorrect knowledge or misconceptions will lead to poor decision-making and harmful consequences. Like if a people is misinformed about climate change, he may not take the necessary actions to mitigate its effects, which could lead to catastrophic consequences for the planet and in turn for the whole humanity.
