Assignment:

The four vertebrate model organisms, zebrafish, clawed frog, chicken, and the house mouse, all have an organizer that works to pattern the embryo during gastrulation. This organizer is of particular importance in specifying the AP and DV axes. What turns on this organizer (i.e. Nieuwkoop center)? What paracrine signals does the organizer secrete? How does that specify the DV axis first, followed by the AP axis? Finally, where is this signaling source located in each of the four vertebrates? Use the information you learned to help you formulate your answer.  Outside sources are also permitted. Remember to cite any ideas that are not yours.
