Academic dishonesty is a disease that infects the very root of Academia as a whole and crumbles the foundation it is built on: trust and verified, peer-reviewed information. The goal of graduate school is to gather more knowledge that will allow one to advance in their chosen field of study. That requires work, sacrifice, and integrity throughout the pursuit of a graduate degree. Academic dishonesty robs those who engage in it of real accomplishment, it makes their achievements, if they are even able to get away with it, worthless and empty.

There is always the temptation to take the easy way out, to cut corners and finish assignments without giving proper acknowledgement to the people and work you received then information from. If an assignment is due and one feels as though they do not have enough time to finish it for instance, is when such thoughts have crossed my mind even. But the desire to have pride in my work, to rightfully acknowledge those who have come before me, and for me to earn my graduate degree in my own right, having completed my own work fully, overrides any thoughts like that immediately.
