The U.S., Britain, and France, amongst a few others, attempted to stick to liberal democracy as the answer to the global depression. By the 1930s, one could easily identify this approach as a minority.
Question 1 - What other political -isms rose up during this time? Why were they so successful in practically every continent (exception of Australia & Antarctica)?
Question 2-What attempts were made to guarantee global peace following WW I? Were these effective policies/treaties?
Question 3- Which powers broke said treaties first? How did the U.S. and global community react to such belligerent powers?
Question 4- Define appeasement. Which major powers adopted this policy following WW I? What did they hope to achieve by doing so? Was this policy a success, failure, or a mix of both?
Question 5- There are several events, documents and acts of legislation that demonstrate the U.S. edging ever closer to total war before December 7, 1941. Identify and describe three such events.
Question 6- Describe some of the political, social, cultural and economic characteristics of the U.S. home front during the Second World War. How did the U.S. differ from its main allies' home fronts?
Question 7- During our sections on WW I, we discussed varying ways how the U.S. re-identified the Central Powers citizens as the other. How did the U.S. dehumanize the Axis powers during the Second World War? Were there any differences between the way the U.S. viewed the Japanese from the way they viewed the Nazis?
Question 8- Ultimately, how did the Allies triumph over the Axis powers? What role did the atomic bomb play in 1945? Which Axis power was the original target for the atomic bombs
