Influencing performance

In a working environment rational persuasion is most often used as it uses logic and facts to convince the boss; facts are often what they seem to want to hear. I think that the boss's time is short in most cases. I recall one of my bosses in the past where I only had 3-5 minutes to state my case; my facts had to be short, to the point, and very effective. However, in a case where I might have a bit more time with my boss, my approach might change so does my tactic.
