Visit at least two different types of establishments such as Costco, Walmart, or a grocery store as one establishment and a service provider such as a government licensing office or your bank as the other establishment. Use establishments that you would regularly visit. The key is to use two establishments that typically have lines for customers to be served or to check out. Get in the line as you normally would. Use your watch to record the time it takes from when you joined the line to when you were served. D o-thi s at least one other time during the week and compare the times and other experiences as noted below.
Question 1: Describe the establishments you visited (include location/ major intersection), the waiting-line model in use, and your overall experience. State the wait times for each line you were in.
Question 2: What method do you think the establishment used to establish a time standard for servicing customers as it relates to the waiting-line model they use.
Question 3:How did the service providers deal efficiently (or not efficiently) with customers? What was the mood of the people in line as they reacted to the efficiency of the service providers?
Question 4:As you waited in line describe if there was anything in your reach such as information, products, promotions, etc. State reasons for why these items would be placed there and discuss if they were effective or not.
Question 5:What operations improvements would you advise these establishments make as it relates to their waiting-line model and / or customer service so they can service their customers better?
