When keeping track of the ads you encounter you should keep a record of the following:
What ad did you watch, listen to, browse, or read?
What medium was the ad placed on?
Advertisements include the following:
Digital: Banner ads, Sponsored advertising, Snapchat filters, YouTube ads etc, Hulu
Print advertising: newspaper, magazine,
Outdoor: billboards, signage at sports areas and entertainment venues
TV: commercials, product placement in TV shows (sitcoms, live, and reality TV)
Radio: AM/FM, Spotify, Pandora, Podcasts, online radio etc.
Essay: In a 500 word minimum essay reflect on what you observed. Your essay should address the following:
Analyze your log and summarize your findings. Below are a possible list of questions to consider for your essay:
What observations surprised you? What observations confirmed your beliefs about advertising.
What type of strategies or techniques were companies most likely to use in their advertisements?
In what ways did you observe ads adapting to the digital space? Give examples of how you observed this during your time.
What do you conclude about the media and advertising from this experience? What does this mean for individuals or the general public?
