Problem: From the moment I decided to become a nurse, I saw myself providing care at the bedside of the sick and infirmed. The desire to assist patients recover has been my driving force throughout my nursing education from LPN, RN, MSN, to DNP. At various stages of my education and practice, I have had varying ideas about what area of nursing I should specialize in. During my BSN, I took a course in epidemiology which dealt with the causes and spread of diseases and their impact on populations. Writing scholarly papers on primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention in my local community opened my eyes to what nurses could do to become positive social change agents. My project also gave me the opportunity to interact with and provide critical health education to especially immigrants in the community. These experiences made me develop a special interest in public health and public administration. That interest led me to pursue an MSN program specializing in public health administration.
