Business Communications Assignment:

Think about the 4 people we discussed in our first class regarding their verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills: Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Jobs and Kanye West. Group A-H is assigned Kanye West Group I-O is assigned Jerry Seinfeld Group P-Z is assigned Steve Jobs. Part A: Compose a letter to introduce yourself to the person you have chosen as if you were applying for a job with their company. How would you "grab" their attention when they will be receiving hundreds of letters for the position? What did you learn about their communication skills that helped you decide what to write? Give examples of what you learned about that person that inspired your written communication. Part B: You are in an elevator and, by coincidence, your assigned person is in the elevator as well. You've had no time to prepare, but you have contacted them by letter (Part A). You have 2-3 minutes to introduce yourself and "stand out in the crowd" while the elevator is going up to the penthouse. What would you say and why? What non-verbal skills would you use and how would you use them? Prepare a 2-3 minute script of what you would say and submit the script as part of this assignment.
