Assignment - Interdisciplinary Studies and Integration 60000
Description - To this end, the assignment this week asks you to participate in integrating and synthesizing arguments to make your own interdisciplinary claims. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and I would recommend that you do) is to find at least two academic, peer-reviewed articles or book chapters on a topic that interests you, that approach the topic in question from different disciplinary angles. For example, if you are interested in public health, you might choose to find two articles on the Black Death of medieval world-one which examines its effects from an economic standpoint, and one that examines its effects through a historical or political lens.
After you have read both of these articles, you will be responsible with writing a 3-4 page paper, or creating a detailed Powerpoint or Prezi presentation (at least 10-15 DETAILED) slides which does the following:
1. Gives a brief synopsis of both of the articles you read for this assignment
2. Puts the articles in question in conversation with each other in an effort to explain to me, your reader, what we learn about the topic you've chosen by putting these articles from different fields side by side. In essence, when we integrate and synthesize the articles with each other, what new insights about the subject at hand do we learn? (Another way to look at this is to ask yourself, what would I lose in understanding of this topic if I only had one source or the other to consult)?
Please be as specific as possible in your argumentation. A good paper or presentation should have a specific thesis that you then back up throughout the rest of your paper or presentation.
If you are having trouble finding articles, let me know and we can chat!
