Problem
I. You will use the pedagogy of listening to find 3 separate times to observe and gather artifacts of a GROUP of children. These need to be related time (meaning they can be connected around the same ideas, materials, or questions).
II. You will gather artefacts of children. These can include transcripts, photographs, creations by the children These should help you to retell the story of the ordinary moment. The artefacts should be:
A. Important pieces to help viewers looking at the documentation see how the interpretations about learning were derived and how they allow for other interpretations beyond the pre-service teacher's own
B. Represent the 'learning' process and the 'what' of the learning
C. Representative of at least two media (for example, images and text)
D. Reflect how relationships are critical in working with young children, families and colleagues (relations with people, place, and materials).
III. You will then write 1 combined analysis of your 3 observations of children. This is why it's important to look for themes and patterns in your observations. Think about the story of learning you want to tell and the conversations about learning you'd like to open up. Use at least
3 theories and research to analyse your observation. Consider the following when analysing your observations.
A. What was exciting or surprising to you about the experience of the children?
B. What moved you or furthered your thinking?
C. Can you make connections to broader issues or images of teaching and learning?
D. What connections do you see between these observations?
E. How do theorists help explain these connections?
F. How does current research support these connections?
IV. You will then reflect and make a list of three open-ended questions about the children or the children's learning that crossed your mind (inspired by your observations and analysis) These questions need to be directly related to children's learning you've analysed i.e. your question should ONLY be about the children. These questions will help you to discover more about the children in your learning community.
