Question: What misconceptions do CJ TV shows/movies give the general public that is false about constitutional rights (ex. arrest, right to an attorney, searches, Miranda, probable cause, etc.)?

Example:

Subject: Legal right to make only one phone call

False: You only get 1 phone call when arrested.

Truth: You can call anyone when at the jail or make several phone calls, the person you are calling just has to be willing to accept the collect call. At the PBCJ there is a pay phone in the holding cell with a list of all the bail bonds agents in alphabetical order. Also a notice that all phone calls are outbound & recorded. There is also directions posted for the phone & how it works in multiple languages explaining the collect phone call process. When a juvenile is direct filed to adult court for serious crimes they go to the PBCJ & are held on the 12th floor in 12 South D. They have been accused of very serious crimes (ex. murder, sexual battery, car jacking, strong armed robbery, etc.) at this point. Once at the PBCJ, the juvenile inmates use a cordless phone the Corrections Deputy Sheriff (D/S) has at their desk in the middle of the block area. The D/S just hands the phone to the inmate if they are in a cell. Any inmate can have their phone rights also taken away as a form of disciplinary action too.
