Honorary whites are minorities who approximate or even surpass whites along many important measures, such as incomes, educational attainments, and the like. In that category are many Asian Americans, light-skinned Latinos, and Middle-Eastern Americans. They assimilate more readily into the the dominant culture and, as you mentioned, often will begin to reject their minority community as they move deeper into honorary white status. So have we moved from a bi-racial to a tri-racial formation in the United States and if so, what might this mean as it applies to racism toward the Black community?
