Anthropological Perspectives on Gender--

Anthropologists and other social scientists distinguish distinguish biological "sex" --a complex biological phenomenon-- from "gender" a cultural construct that associates certain characteristics, behaviors and roles with different gender categories as they are defined in a particular culture.

Use 2 specific examples from the text readings (and that come from cultures different from your own),that demonstrate how specific cultures shape ideas about what different genders are like, how they should act,and how they should interact?

Cultural Influences on Gender in Your Own Experience-

Select one gender category that exists in a culture in which you were raised as a child. What name or names is the category given in this culture?
