Upon examination, the patient has a dry, unproductive cough and a temperature of 99.8°F (37.6°C). Laboratory tests reveal a lack of IgG and IgA antibody isotypes, though IgM values are normal. The number of T, B, and NK cells are also normal. The child is diagnosed with Pneumocystis jivorcii pneumonia, and is evaluated and confirmed to have CD40L deficiency, the most common form of immunodeficiency leading to the observed clinical signs.
