Mrs. Miller is an 89-year-old woman who is currently residing in the LTC facility where you are a
practical nurse learner. She has a history of dementia and type two diabetes. Additionally, she recently contracted covid and has a productive cough. Therefore, she is on isolation precautions and is confined to her room.
Mrs. Miller can get agitated and become aggressive with staff, especially when she is woken in the early morning. During a recent incident, she sustained a skin tear when she hit a staff member who was assisting her out of bed. When informed, the doctor prescribed a benzodiazepine to be given as needed for her aggressive behaviors.
Although Mrs. Miller can stand, she can be unsteady on her feet and therefore uses a sit to stand lift to transfer to her wheelchair for meals. Since being diagnosed with covid, she has had increased confusion and therefore is not always able to follow direction.
Today you are assigned to care for Mrs. Miller. Answer the following questions regarding her care.
