Question: Screenings are an aspect of preventative care that I believe is an invaluable resource. This tool in conjunction with others, such as education and vaccinations, would have great benefits in reducing the incidence of various diseases including HPV. Another aspect that is important that we both identified is the targeting of individuals that are most at risk for contracting the disease. While these things can be seen to have their benefits, it is also important to identify areas where they may fall short. A major shortcoming that pertains to a variety of policy tools is the inability to reach every population. In order to be more effective, I personally believe policy tools should include aspects that help underserved and lower socioeconomic populations gain access to information, care, and services they seek to increase. It is hard to push for more education and screenings if you don't first address what may be preventing individuals from accessing them in the first place.
