Media Literacy Assignment

For this assignment you are asked to choose 2 news sources (articles, videos, podcasts, etc.): 1 should be from a reputable news source, and the other should be from a questionable source (in other words, "fake news"). Your task is to think critically about these two items, and then to answer the following questions:

Question 1. Why did you choose this item? What makes you think it is believable or not?

Question 2. What is the source? What information can you find on this source? (e.g., Who is the writer/creator? Is the media source known to have a particular bias?)

Question 3. What is the purpose of this item? (Is it presenting unbiased news? Is it trying to persuade you to believe or act a certain way?)

Question 4. In your own words, why do you think it is important to be able to recognize reputable news sources? How will you use this information moving forward?

Question 5. Is this a topic that you have thought about before this lesson? Does it concern you that we must consider our sources so carefully now, or do you believe this has always been the case? Why?
