Why is employee engagement important in an organization? 

This assignment focuses on material from Weeks 1 to 6. There are multiple parts to this assignment. Please answer every question. There is one video to view and one article to read in preparation for answering the (5) questions below.

  1. What is employee engagement? How can an employer cultivate employee engagement? (Hint: engagement is related to concepts we discussed in class such as organizational culture, job design, orientation, and training and development) (5 marks)
  2. There are a variety of ways to change workplace culture and foster greater employee engagement. Provide one specific example. In providing one example of employee engagement, identify if this is a practice, policy, program and/or a characteristic of organizational culture. In addition, describe how this practice, policy, program or aspect of company culture might make employees feel (5 marks)
  3. How does employee disengagement impact an organization? What are the costs to the company? (list four items) (5 marks)
  4. Employees (short article) at Google have sometimes protested organizational policy by threatening to quit. Is this related to organizational practice or culture? What can be done when managers and employees do not agree on an issue? (2.5 marks)
  5. Reflecting upon the future, five to ten (5-10) years from now, what is one way you will ensure employees in your organization feel valued, respected and heard? Share a different concrete example than question #2 above. (2.5 marks)
