Refering to the readings for this week, please respond to one of the prompts below:
1. (This is not an easy one, but...) In your own words, explain what is meant by a self-organizing system. In a sentence or two, explain how the Earth's climate system is a self-organizing system. What happens when climate thresholds such as atmospheric CO 2 levels are exceeded and the climate system does not reorganize according to or return to one of its typical states? (The answer is "We don't know" - but what happens to the "identity" of the climate system?)
2. What makes a system "complex"? How do you need to study and understand complex systems?
3. In a few sentences, and in your own words, try to decribe the concept of resilience for complex systems. There are many answers to this question, so try to highlight what you understand about this concept.
4. Post a link to some media that you read or watched that relates to the readings. Write 1-2 paragraphs describing the what the clip or article is about and how you connect it to what you read.
5. Compose and answer your own prompt that matches the quality of questions and responses required from above. This option is for when you got something out of the reading that you want to write about, but that I did not ask about.
