What needs to change? There is a high prevalence of Type II Diabetes among middle-aged adult women in the community.
Where is change needed? The needs assessment identified that poor nutrition habits and low levels of physical activity appeared to be key behavioral factors contributing to the high rates of Type II Diabetes in the population. In addition, predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors were all found to contribute to the high rates of Type II Diabetes within the population. Key predisposing factors identified to target as potential program goals and objectives in the needs assessment included limited enjoyment, knowledge, awareness, perceived competence, and self-efficacy towards these health behaviors. Key enabling factors identified to target as potential program goals and objectives in the needs assessment included improving access to sources for fresh fruits and vegetables, improving access to healthy lifestyle-types of programs and resources, improving access to physical activity opportunities (programs, parks, trails, etc.), and the need for support for child care for mothers/caretakers. Key reinforcing factors identified to target as potential program goals and objectives in the needs assessment included improving family and social support.
