Case Study: John Smith had four beers at the "Showroom Pub", a licensed facility on the grounds of the "Canadian National Exhibition" between 11 am -1 pm. He then returned at 5 pm and consumed three glasses of wine. Upon leaving the facility in the evening, he fell over a low railing on the stairs that lead from the Showroom pub to the Exhibition grounds, struck his head, and landed on his back leaving him with a severe spinal injury. John and his family sued the Canadian National Exhibition on the basis that they did not make the grounds safe enough to protect him from getting injured.
