It goes without saying labor unions are controversial, at least in the United States. Pro-union workers believe unions are one of the basic building blocks of a strong working class. Opponents say unions are too restrictive and hurt working class employees. Now that we have learned a bit about unions in the workplace, you will need to get a first hand account of what it is like to work with one, or as a member of one.

Locate someone who is employed in a union workplace and interview them. You can choose to interview either a member of the union or a member of the management team that deals with the union. Ask them to identify the following:

Their position with the company (how long, job duties, in/out of union etc).
What do they believe are the pros and cons of working in a union setting.
What advice they may give someone entering the job market on getting a job in a union setting.
What legal issues they have seen involving the union.
