Discussion
Joyce Workman is 42 years old and was brought to the emergency department by their partner after being sick with the flu for two days. Joyce was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes five years ago, which is managed with oral antibiotic medication. The client partner states Joyce's only other medical history is hypertension. The client has currently been sick for two days with a fever that ranged from 100.6 to 102.5. other symptoms include headache, body aches, nausea, and vomiting. The client appears weak, lethargic, and slow to answer questions. Eyes are half shut, their skin is hot and dry, and their breath smells fruity. . the client can state their name but is unsure where they are or what day it is. Athe client responded that they are sick, and their spouse brought them here.
Current vital signs are BP 95/ 64, T 39.2 (102.6F), pulse rate 104/min. respiratory 28/min, pulse oximetry 94% on room air, and blood glucose 367 mg/dl. Labs and ABGs were drawn and sent to the laboratory for STAT results. The client has a peripheral IV, and NaCL 0.9% has been started at 125 ml/ hr. O2 per nasal cannula also been initiated at 2L/min
The client is being transferred to the medical intensive care unit (MICU)
