Case: Glen Porter RN, BSN, is a middle manager in a nursing home. He is pursuing his MSN in an administrative tract in his university. He has been studying the way the nursing home is organized and has some ideas to make the agency run even better. He is considering using the ideas he has for changes as his master's thesis or project.

Glen notices that occasionally caregivers and nurses do not finish in time to leave when their shift hours are over and that they are taking overtime. He thinks that if the work were done more efficiently, there would be less overtime and that would mean a savings on the payroll.
He decides to review the types of leadership and management systems to decide which would provide the most efficient use of the staff without losing their group cohesiveness. He reads about different leadership styles and management practices and decides to compare two different systems for his thesis, using group cohesiveness and team reward as outcome criteria.
