Case: In qualitative research, it is easy to approach a research study from the point of bias-one where we make assumptions about a topic or a population, and those assumptions shade the interpretation of data. For example, asking a research question like "How do male nursing students describe the experience of being biased against in clinical rotations?" That question assumes that male nursing students experience bias, which may or may not be an accurate assumption. A more neutral way to frame the question is, "How do male nursing students describe their experiences during clinical rotations?"

Consider a research topic someone is passionate about. What kinds of biases might that person bring to conducting research on this topic? How might that person incorporate reflexivity into their research approach?

Some fields have a greater appreciation for qualitative methods than others (for example, the hard sciences generally don't engage in qualitative work). What do they feel that their discipline's general attitude toward qualitative research is, based on their reading of the literature or their personal experience?
