CASE STUDY - A 63 year-old widow comes to the clinic complaining of fatigue, numbness and tingling in her fingertips and some problems with her gait. She is worried she has had a stroke. She takes medication for her blood pressure, cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. She also has problems with her "aching joints" and takes an over the counter pain medication two to three times a day. She lives alone and has very little appetite now that her children are grown and her husband died last year, so she eats only twice a day and usually has toast and tea for breakfast late in the day and a half a tuna sandwich and some pickles for an early dinner.

2. What kinds of anemia are possible for this patient and why?
3. Identify the lab tests that would be completed to determine the correct diagnosis. Include what each test is revealing.
