Pollinating bumblebees of a given plant are attracted by the pink color of its flowers. In addition to being pollinated, these flowers serve as a breeding ground for these bumblebees. Over time, this plant produces a mutant version with red flowers that spreads among the pink-flowered population. A particular variant of bumblebees prefers these red flowers to pink flowers. Over time, the two bumblebee variants diverge from each other to such an extent that interbreeding becomes impossible.
