Background: For this activity, you are going to explore what kind of criminal justice datasets are publicly available. While there are different sites you can use, one of the best (if not the best) is the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data.
Directions: Follow the steps for both topics on the Chapter 9 worksheet. On the next page is an example of how to find all the information needed to answer the worksheet questions.
EXAMPLE
Find a Dataset on Victimization
1. Find topic by going to the NACJD link and searching the topic. Make sure to select Public Access.
2. Look through all the studies to find one that interests you.
For this example, we are using the "International Crime Victim Survey." We can answer questions #1 - #3 just from this information: the name of the study is "International Crime Victim Survey (ICVS" and the years data were collected are 1989-1997, and the data were published on 8-24-2001 (look at the top righthand corner of the picture).
3. Click on the link for the International Crime Victim Survey, and the rest of the information needed will be available (see the summary of the study and the publications tab).
4. Answer the questions below
QUESTIONS
1) What is the name of the study/data?
2) What year(s) were the data collected?

5) How many publications are there that have used that dataset?
