1. Many people hope one day to own a small business. If you have that dream, why? What kind of a business do you want to own? Give relevant background information. If you do not have that dream, why not? What kind of career do you want to have?
2. Many of you have worked in jobs where you report to a manager (often called your "boss" or "supervisor"). Many of you have experience working as a manager supervising others. What are the satisfactions and what are the challenges of working in a supervisory position as a manager? Would you like to have that position? Why or why not?
3. Many people want to work as paid employees in a place owned or run by others, not owned by themselves or by their families. Employees are usually paid by the hour, by the month, or by commission. Promotions often depend on recommendations by managers. What do you think makes a person a successful employee? How can you improve your chances for promotion?
4. As consumers, we make many different types of purchases. What do you consider when you think about making a large purchase? Give an example of the purchase of a service (such as a college education) and the purchase of a product (such as a car).
5. Many consumers have strong brand preferences. If you do, list two brands that you prefer and explain why. If you do not have strong brand preferences, explain why not. What is the advantage of buying non-brand items?
6. Advertising is all around us - on the Internet, on TV, on radio, in newspapers and magazines, on billboards, on buses and subways. What do you like about advertising? What do you dislike about advertising? Give at least two examples.
7. Some people want a career as an accountant and some people do not want a career as an accountant. Which are you and why?
