Question - Using the academic literature and business press, identify what you perceive to be a key challenge facing modern supply chains. Use examples where possible. You may decide to look at a specific industry challenge or a challenge that is pertinent to a particular organisation. Make sure that your recommendations are aligned with the level of analysis that you adopt for this assignment.

Required Elements: The assignment should include the following elements:

1. Key Challenge. You should select what you perceive to be a key challenge facing supply chains (at an industry level or for a specific company). This needs to be supported by evidence and examples from both academia and the business press.

2. Proposed Solutions. You should make recommendations for how this challenge can be addressed going forward whilst acknowledging any potential trade-offs.

Report Specifications: This assessment should be written and structured in the form of a business report. business report should be a maximum of 1900 words (+/- 10%). Tables in the main body of the assignment which contain text should be counted within the overall word limit, unless otherwise specified in a unit's assignment instructions.

Appendices, contents pages, executive summaries, abstracts, acknowledgements, diagrams, figures and reference lists/bibliographies should not be counted within the overall word limit of written work.

An essential feature of the report is the use of academic references. You are therefore advised to read widely. In fact, unless you have read and referenced at least 10 discrete references, it is unlikely that you have done sufficient reading. In addition, consider the quality of the source!

Report Structure -

Executive Summary - The equivalent of an 'abstract' in a journal article (i.e. 200 words). It should briefly summarise the report.

Introduction - A detailed overview of the report (i.e. how the report is organised, the key details of what to find in each section).

Background and Context - Extent to which the report presents a clear understanding of issue selected.

Use of the Literature - Extent to which the report effectively uses the academic and practitioner literature in order to support its arguments.

Conclusion - Extent to which clear recommendations or suggestions are made to suggest how organisations might approach the selected challenge in the future.

Report Presentation - Format, quality of expression, clarity of ideas, referencing and correct bibliography layout.
