ASSESSMENT TASK - Audio Assignment - Workplace issue
Given all your hard work on the workplace issue, you are now considered to be an expert in this area in your workplace.
As such, you have been approached once again by your supervisor to handle a matter related to your chosen workplace issue. A staff member/stakeholder needs assistance.
It just so happens that the information you have gathered in your earlier assessment tasks is exactly what this staff member/stakeholder needs to know about in order to assist with the situation.
As such, you set about telling the staff member/stakeholder all the information s/he needs to help with the situation. The information should answer questions the individual may ask, which may include:
- What is your understanding of the issue?
- Where can s/he go for help? How can you help with the issue?
- Is there any law s/he should know about in relation to the issue?
- What are the options in relation to the issue?
- What can s/he do to be pro-active to reduce the problems associated with the issue?
- Will the workplace continue to support any action associated with the issue?
- Will the workplace treat his/her matter confidentially?
You may address any other questions that uou believe would be relevant to the discussion of the issue. You do not have to use the above questions, they are simply a guide.
To complete this task you must record a conversation as if you are addressing the staff member or stakeholder on the above issues.
The actual nature of your conversation will depend upon which issue you are discussing and what role a staff member or stakeholder may play in the issue. For example, you may be speaking to him/her as a staff member who is a victim of workplace bullying, or you may be speaking to the staff member who is accused of being the bully. You may be speaking with a stakeholder who is complaining about the quality of complaint handling by your organisation.
Regardless, the idea of the task is to ensure that you can listen to a person who is troubled, and provide a good level of advice in return. You should demonstrate a reasonable level of empathy and utilise the communication skills you have learnt in this unit.
Your recording should be no longer than 4 minutes. You may need to compress your information in order to meet this time limit.
