Dulcie Fanning is an 84-year-old female, who has been widowed for 11 years. She has 3 children (Jeremy, James and Jenny) who all live Interstate. Before she retired, she owned her own business, working 6 days a week as a florist. Dulcie was admitted to Cedar Lodge Residential Aged Care (low care section) a year ago following a hospital admission for an infected wound on her leg, from tripping in her garden. At that time, Dulcie's daughter, Jenny, reported that mum had been experiencing increasing forgetfulness over the past 2 years. Dulcie also reported that she no longer felt safe living on her own due to short term memory loss (STML) and was happy to be offered a place at Cedar Lodge. Dulcie was able to bring her 14-year-old miniature poodle, Snowy, into residential care with her, and he has helped her to meet some new friends quickly. Prior to Cedar Lodge, Dulcie lived in her own home with some household assistance by her local church in the last 3 years, helping with tasks such as lawn mowing and gardening, shopping, and driving her to visit her GP. Dulcie is an avid gardener, and enjoys having a few pot plants, bird watching and reading. She wears glasses for reading, but since her surgery for cataracts several years ago; has not required glasses to see long distances. Dulcie has dentures and since admission her health has stabilised and generally well-managed, apart from frequent episodes of urinary frequency and bladder pain. She now uses a walking stick to mobilise and appears frail. She has been transferred to the ward for monitoring following persistent AF, and her cystoscopy will be rebooked in the next few days.
