Case Study: The events that occurred in the United States Healthcare System that I believe to be the most important in shaping the system into what it is today came in the 1990's which were the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) & Medicaid Expansion for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) (Griffin, 2020) . The HIPPA program allowed for individuals healthcare information and privacy to be protected, this program also gave individuals the ability to obtain their healthcare records upon their own request. This program has paved the way for a patient to feel safe and secure that their medical information will not be shared without their consent. I feel this is an important historical event because Medical Conditions are private and patients have the right to protect that information from being shared without their consent. I also believe the HIPPA program helped more patients feel comfortable with going to the Doctor to get treated for illnesses they may have been embarrassed about if the information was able to be made public like treatment related to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

The establishment of the CHIP program is important to Healthcare History because children to young adults having access to affordable Healthcare coverage is important. Lets face it, children get sick often and being able to afford doctor visits, immunizations and other routine care at no-cost or low-cost should be offered to families that qualify. Many families have benefited from this program who otherwise would have been in a finical bind to cover medical expenses without it. That's why I think this program being established has helped shape the U.S Healthcare system in a positive way.
