Discussion Board : The Early Explorers

Now that you have worked on Assignments , are you surprised by any new information you are learning about this time in history? Have you ever considered why certain groups might be excluded from our knowledge of history? What about the things we are teaching our children?

In this course I want you to start considering the voices which are often marginalized, maligned, or not even included at all in our discussion of history. Shouldn't their voices be heard?

Section A: Please select 4 Quotes from the Loewen Article and write 1-2 fully developed paragraphs that reflect on as to why you think each quote is interesting, strange or of importance. (Please write 1-2 paragraphs for EACH quote).

Please consider some of the ideas that may have been new pieces of information to you. What is your understanding of what Loewen is trying to argue in his article?

Section B: What is your reaction to the video Who Really Discovered America? Share with the class THREE new pieces of information you learned from the video you were not previously aware of prior to this class. In 1-2 paragraphs reflect on some of the questions I posed to the class at the beginning of this discussion board. Why is it important to consider other persepctives of history?
