Earlier this year it was revealed that over 87 million Facebook profiles were harvested by a Cambridge Analytica which is a political consulting firm also known for their work with the Trump Administration. The data was exposed via a Facebook API (quiz) created by Aleksandr Kogan research employee for the University of Cambridge. Quiz participation subsequently resulting in a security breach of not only the participant, but the friends of the participant as well unbeknownst to all. First off, what is your opinion on Facebook privacy concerns? Do you feel secure as a Facebook user and if so what precautions are you taking? What are your thoughts on 3rd party API’s and the vetting process (or lack thereof) that allows that allows them to be hosted on Facebook? I am sure many of you have come across many suspicious applications and games often prompting users to give permission to profile information without any indication of malicious intent.
