What is your opinion of the peer review process

Question: There is always debate regarding the value of the peer review process. Peer review is a foundation element of scientific publication. We trust our colleagues to be expert reviewers of our documents. This inherently has some flaws as the match of document to reviewer may not always be right or perhaps the reviewer does not have the right perspective for that particular review. The bottom line is that the process is designed to provide an ability to provide a quality review of an article that allows writers to self-monitor while assuring the public that information is credible and original as it goes to publication.
