Assignment - Interest Groups Project

The first thing to do is research and send me your interest group choice(see links below). This is a first come, first serve process.

Make sure you research your group prior to submission. It is vital that you can answer the questions listed below that deal with donations and legislative bills. Just because it is an interest group does not mean it has made donations or been involved with legislation.

Interest groups play a very important part in American politics. They represent the wishes and interests of everyday citizens like you and me as well as large multinational corporations. Interest groups are effective because they can combine the motivation, energy and financial resources of many. Interest groups perform various functions but most importantly they attempt to influence the government. The purpose of this project is to focus on interest groups so we can learn what they are, what they represent and how they operate.

Directions - Prepare a presentation that is 10-15 slides long and includes the below information:

The presentation must answer all of the following questions: Have a single slide for every question.

Make sure to cite your sources and have a reference page. Use APA 7th edition.

1. What is your interest group and where is it based?

2. What is the purpose, issue of your interest group?

3. What groups make up the membership of your selected interest group? How many members does your interest group have?

4. What does the interest group do for its members (member services)?

5. Explain what issues it supports? How does it justify (defend) that position/stance?

6. What issues does it oppose? How does it justify (defend) that position?

7. Explain what legislation has been supported and opposed by this group in recent years? List 2-3 bills with the bill number. Be sure to include information about the bills.

8. What presidential candidates has it endorsed between 2010-2022, if any and why? (include party)

9. What presidential candidates has it donated money to? Have these presidential candidates become heavily involved? How much? Which Party?

10. Who in the House have they donated money to and how much? (list a minimum of 3 individuals between 2010-2022 (include party, and state)

11. Who in the senate have they donated money to and how much? (list a minimum of 3 individuals between 2010-2022 (include party, and state)

12. What is your opinion of this interest group now that you have done the research?
