Step 1: Select a community-based organization or business make your audit. Your chosen organization may offer community mental health or addictions services, or it may offer other types of services that clients might require (i.e. transportation, food/beverage, employment support, etc). 

Step 2: Familiarize yourself with your chosen organization or business. Please note that physically attending the organization is not required. You can learn a lot from an organization's website, social media, annual reports, newsletters, news releases etc. The following questions will help to guide your analysis:

• What does the organization/business say about itself?
• What population(s) does the organization/business serve?
• What is your initial impression of the organization's/business website?
• What type of culture do the organization's/business materials reflect?
• What do you think it would be like to work for this organization/business?
• What are the organization's mission, vision, and values? Do these appear to be diversity informed?
• Can you tell what the organization's/business relationship is like with other community partners?
• What kind of people work for the organization?
• Would you feel comfortable accessing services from this organization? Why or why not?

You should include a brief introduction to your chosen organization/business, your informed thoughts and impressions, your assessment of the organization/business level of cultural competence, potential barriers for people to access services, as well as your recommendations for improving cultural competency.
