A rural critical access hospital emergency department had 15 patients present within the last 72 hours with the presentation of blood diarrhea. The emergency department records indicate that all individuals report eating a hamburger at a local family-owned restaurant about 20 miles from the local hospital. Patients implicated the presentation of their symptoms being related to eating the hamburger. Notification to the local health department indicated that there were also additional reported cases of bloody diarrhea associated with eating at the local family-owned restaurant. Using field outbreak investigation methods, respond to the following:
