Question: Some ways in which our American culture stratifies people include race, gender, ethnicity, age, economic status, religion, education, and occupation. Society stratifies to maintain an order and control over groups. Social stratification is a way to rank large size of groups of people into a hierarchy depending on their privileges (Henslin, 2018). I think the function of stratification is to find information for demographics and statistics but because of the issue of ranking those groups of people, social stratification has brought inequity and discrimination. A clear example is that people with lower incomes live in certain locations while the wealthy have their location all within the same city.
