Question: What is wrong with such phrases as "the black community," "the Latino community," "the Asian community," "the white community," etc? Do these kinds of phrases obscure something essential about these groups? If so, what? Is there some sense in which these groups really do represent "communities"?

There are many things wrong with these phrases. For starters, it still shows that we have segregation in this country. Colored people already face racial thoughts when looking for housing. By classifying communties, it's only making segregation worse in the United States. These phrases do obscure something essential from these groups. It hides their true identity/self. Black, Asian, Latino, and white are all broad classifications of people's ethnicties. And yes, in a sense these groups represent their communties because they bring their cultural beliefs, values, and norms to the community.
