1. Union households and attitudes about illegal immigrants.

For each of the exercises we are using a feeling thermometer - the variable is scaled so that 0=intense dislike, 50=neutral, and 100= like very much. Each respondent is asked to give a number on the 0-100 scale for a variety of symbols, groups and particular people. All of the feeling thermometers start with the letters ft. ft_ILLEGAL_IMMIGRANTS records your feelings about illegal immigrants. This is the "test variable" for this question.

(Hint: experiment with the "Cut-point" rather than specifying Group numbers. Cut-point divides the sample into 2 groups- Group 2 includes anyone greater than or equal to the cut-point. Group 1 includes anyone below the cut-point.)
