T-Test Practice Problem:

Do a practice problem. Here is the scenario.

You want to test whether elementary students who are provided breakfast before taking the state standardized test perform different than students who are not provided breakfast.

You choose two classes, each with 25 students. One class was provided breakfast, and the other was not.

The independent variable is whether breakfast was provided, and the dependent variable is score on the exam. Attached is an Excel and SPSS file with the exam score for the two groups. Import the data and use SPSS and answer the following questions below:

1. What t-test is the most appropriate in this scenario and why?

2. Is this a one or two-tailed test and why?

3. What is the value of the test statistic and the p-value?

4. Calculate the effect size using r2.
