An apparatus similar to the one used in the oscillation part of this experiment is used to find the speed of a wave on a string. One of the methods used is to graph the resonant frequency versus number of maxima present on the standing wave. Kaleidagraph is then used to find the equation of the best fit line for this data.
DATA:
Length of unstretched string: 163.0 char06.png 0.7 cm
Slope from the best fit line: 8.91 char06.png 0.07 s-1
What is the speed of the wave?
What is the uncertainty in the speed of the wave found above?
